ESR at IFA 2026: Anti-Yellowing Cases and Corning-Glass Screen Protection

Accessory launches rarely get the attention phone launches do, but they are often where the more useful engineering shows up. Cases and screen protectors are the parts of a phone you replace every year or two, and small material changes there affect your daily experience more than another half-point of benchmark score.

ESR used IFA 2026 in Berlin to announce a full refresh across charging and protection. Two of the announcements are directly relevant to anyone shopping for a case or a screen protector in India, because they address the two complaints buyers raise most often: clear cases turning yellow, and screen protectors that crack from a modest knock. Worth stating upfront: these are the manufacturer's own claims, ESR did not disclose pricing, and no India launch was announced.

What ESR Announced

The protection side of the line-up has three products:

• ESR UltraFit Armorite Pro Screen Protector — built on Accessory Glass by Corning, with claims of 10x impact absorption and 2x better scratch performance, plus a guided installation frame.

On the charging side, the headline product is the Cyclone 25W Magnetic Charging Pad with CryoBoost, a Qi2 pad with active cooling and an adjustable kickstand that ESR says was named an IFA Innovation Award 2026 honoree. Two retractable-cable chargers round it out: a 45W wall unit and a 100W dual-cable car charger. There is also a Find My-enabled wallet accessory.

The Anti-Yellowing Claim, Explained

Every clear case yellows eventually. The reason is chemistry, not manufacturing shortcuts: thermoplastic polyurethane, the flexible material that makes a clear case feel soft and grippy, oxidises under UV light and heat. The bonds break down, and the by-products absorb blue light — which your eye reads as yellow.

What "anti-yellowing" actually means in practice is a modified resin with UV stabilisers and antioxidants blended in. These slow the reaction. They do not stop it. It is a separate Corning product line made specifically for aftermarket screen protectors, using Corning's glass composition and strengthening process but with different specifications from the glass laminated onto a phone's display.

The practical takeaway is simpler: a well-made tempered glass protector from a supplier that names its glass source is a better bet than an unbranded one at half the price, because the failure you are protecting against is a single drop, not gradual wear.

Charging: Cooling Is the Interesting Part

The Cyclone pad's active cooling matters more than the 25W figure. Wireless charging is inefficient by nature, and the waste energy becomes heat in the phone — which triggers thermal throttling, meaning the charger drops well below its rated speed. A fan that keeps the coil and the phone's back cooler lets the charger hold its peak rate for longer, so the real-world gain is often bigger than the spec sheet suggests. Should You Buy Into This?

Some honest caveats before you go shopping.

Drop ratings are marketing, not standards. A "16-foot drop rating" comes from the manufacturer's own testing, usually onto a controlled surface at a controlled angle. It is not an independently certified figure and should not be read as a guarantee.

No pricing was announced, and ESR products typically carry a premium over generic equivalents in India. Whether that premium is worth it depends on whether you replace cases annually anyway.

There is no India launch. Availability was described as Amazon and ESR's own site starting September 2026, without an India-specific date.
